Israel has not changed its barcode prefix, nor does any sovereign government possess the technical or legal authority to reassign global commercial barcodes. Under international GS1 standards, the 729 prefix remains exclusively allocated to GS1 Israel, while prefixes 840–849 belong to Spain and 870–879 belong to the Netherlands.
